Exclusive Access to Ohakea Air Base
As a BARNZ member, airlines are able to nominate Ohakea Air Base as an operational alternate. This strategic option is especially valuable for wide-body jets operating to Auckland or Christchurch. Ohakea is the only other wide body capable airport in New Zealand. Use of Ohakea delivers significant operational savings, generating an estimated $10.4 million NZD in fuel savings annually for our members. An airline nominating Ohakea when en route to Auckland can avoid six tonne of carbon burn on a single sector.
